EN/SK: A boy is sitting on the floor, playing with a spinning top and asking his father serious questions. Th e father is trying to answer as accurately as possible and the son is asking one question after another. Th e spinning top is spinning. One of the oldest toys, the spinning top resembles our home, the universe fl ying through the infi nitate. A great name for the exhibition of Julo Nagy, a guy, spinning like a spinning top between styles and forms with a respectable body of work for the studio Calder. Otherwise, another accurate name. Th e image of little Alexander riding his bicycle around the streets of Fenix with an ingenious device that holds a bottle inhaler under his nose. Does it seem incomprehensible to you? It is not. Volvo, volver, volare. It is spinning and in circling brings colours that intermingle and forms that interchange. Julo the curious guy observes the spinning and chooses what suits him. Th at is the attribute of a person that we call an artist. As my favourite Pablo said, I do not seek, I fi nd. Images fl y around at one moment and Julo repaints them on canvas before mingling them into an infi nite merrygoround of connections. With the honesty of a perpetual student, learning at the theatre of the world and with the impudence of a pickpocket he takes what and who suits him. Again Pablo the Artist does not imitate, steal. Th is is another proof that if art exists, it exists for all.

My friend Julo called, would I like to see the pictures he wanted to present at his exhibition. I would love to. I know his pictures and I like talking to him about them, as about everything. Julo is a good and attentive companion. We defi nitely have one thing in common, as Jindřich Štýrský used to say, we live by the pictures, they are our food. I am looking forward to Julos’ Big wall in the Medium; I love the big pictures with big women. Th e only thing that seems adequate to me, if I were present at the opening, I should wear a big tutu, of course a pink one, and adopt the posture of Degas’ ballerina. Painting pictures is a strange activity, to paint colour by brush on the canvas is at least as pleasant as playing with a spinning top and asking serious questions that are impossible to answer. Among other things it helps me to be self aware in the here and now. Julo’s work is also about honesty, the quality that belongs to it. A very precious quality. So dear Julo, so that we would fi nish with three, as it brings good luck.

Chlapec sedí na zemi, hrá sa s vĺčikom a kladie otcovi vážne otázky. Otec sa snaží odpovedať čo najpresnejšie a syn kladie otázku za otázkou. Vĺčik sa točí. Jedna z najstarších hračiek, točiaci sa vĺčik, napodobňujúci náš domov, vesmír letiaci nekonečnom. Výborný názov pre výstavu Jula Nagya, chlapíka, ktorý ako točiaci sa vĺčik putuje medzi štýlmi a formami so solídnou vizitkou grafického štúdia Calder. Inak ďalší výstižný názov. Predstava malého Alexandra preháňajúceho sa na bicykli ulicami Phoenixu s dômyselným zariadením, ktoré mu drží fľaštičku s inhalačným roztokom pod nosom. Zdá sa vám to nezrozumiteľné? Nie je. Volvo, volver, volare. Točí sa a v kruhoch prináša farby, ktoré sa miešajú, a tvary, ktoré sa menia. Julo, zvedavý chlapík, sleduje krúženie a vyberá si, čo sa mu hodí. To je vlastnosť človeka, ktorého nazývame umelcom. Ako povedal môj obľúbený Pablo, ja nehľadám, nachádzam. V jednej chvíli okolo preletia obrazy a Julo ich predtým, ako ich znova zamieša do nekonečného kolotoča súvzťažností, poctivo premaľúva na plátna. S poctivosťou večného žiaka v divadle sveta a s drzosťou vreckového zlodeja si berie, čo sa mu hodí. A znova Pablo: umelec nenapodobuje, kradne. Ďalší dôkaz toho, že umenie, ak je, tak je tu pre všetkých.

Môj priateľ Julo ma zavolal, či by som sa pozrel na obrazy, ktoré chce dať na svoju výstavu. Veľmi rád. Jeho obrazy poznám a rád sa s ním o nich rozprávam, ako aj o všetkom. Julo je dobrý a pozorný spoločník. Jednu vec máme určite spoločnú. Ako hovoril Jindřich Štýrský, živíme sa obrazmi, sú našou potravou. Teším sa na Julovu Veľkú stenu v Galérii Medium. Milujem veľké obrazy s veľkými ženami. Jediné adekvátne, čo mi napadá, keby som bol prítomný na vernisáži, je, že by som mal pred ňou stáť vo veľkej tutu – ružovej, samozrejme – v postoji Degasovej baletky. Maľovať obrazy je zvláštna činnosť, nanášať farbu štetcom na plátno robí človeku aspoň tak dobre, ako púšťať vĺčika a klásť dôležité otázky, na ktoré sa nedá neodpovedať. Okrem iného to pomáha aj uvedomovať si sám seba tu a teraz. Julova tvorba je aj o čestnosti, to je kvalita, ktorá k nej patrí. Veľmi vzácna kvalita. Takže, drahý Julo, aby sme zakončili trojicou, prináša to šťastie.
